What is Dental Filling?

When decay damages a tooth, a filling restores its shape, function, and strength. At NeoSmile we use tooth-coloured composite resin that bonds directly to the tooth structure — unlike old-style amalgam (silver) fillings. Composite fillings are virtually invisible, require less tooth removal, and strengthen the tooth by bonding to it.

Key Benefits

Invisible Restoration

Composite resin is colour-matched to blend perfectly with surrounding tooth structure.

Minimal Tooth Removal

Bonded composites require less healthy tooth drilling than traditional amalgam fillings.

Mercury-Free

No amalgam or mercury — fully biocompatible composite material.

Strengthens the Tooth

The composite bonds chemically to dentin and enamel, adding structural support.

Single Visit

The entire procedure from preparation to polishing is completed in one appointment.

Durable

Modern composite fillings last 7–10 years with good oral hygiene.

How It Works — Step by Step

1

Examination & X-ray

The extent of decay is assessed with visual examination and digital X-rays.

2

Anaesthesia

Local anaesthetic is applied to ensure the procedure is completely comfortable.

3

Decay Removal

All decayed tissue is removed using a dental drill and/or hand instruments, leaving only healthy tooth.

4

Shade Matching

The correct composite shade is selected to match your natural tooth colour.

5

Composite Placement & Curing

Composite is placed in layers, each cured with a blue light for maximum strength.

6

Shaping & Polishing

The filling is shaped to your bite and polished to a smooth, natural finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Local anaesthesia ensures you are completely numb. You may feel pressure and vibration but no pain.

Composite fillings typically last 7–10 years. With excellent oral hygiene they can last longer.

Avoid eating on the filled side for 1–2 hours until anaesthesia wears off. After that, normal eating is fine.

Old amalgam fillings that are cracked or leaking should be replaced. Intact amalgam fillings may not need replacement unless they are causing issues.
